The PM E-Bike Scheme has seen some major updates that may disappoint some students. Initially, it was announced that 100,000 electric bikes would be given free to top-performing students across Pakistan. However, recent developments suggest that these bikes will not be free. Instead, they will be offered on easy, interest-free installments with government subsidies.

The revised plan mentions that about 116,000 electric bikes will be distributed under this scheme. While students won’t receive bikes for free anymore, they can get them at subsidized rates with a repayment period of up to 2 years, without any additional interest. For example, if a bike costs Rs. 5 lakh, a subsidy of around Rs. 1 lakh will reduce the payable amount to Rs. 4 lakh, which can be paid in installments.

Another significant change is the expansion of eligibility. Earlier, the scheme was only for freshly admitted university students, but now it may be open to a wider range of students currently enrolled in various universities across the country.

The official announcement of the scheme is expected around 14th August, and registrations will follow soon after, likely via the Prime Minister Youth Program portal. Required documents include a valid CNIC, domicile, driving license, and educational certificates.
